For the fourth successive year, the DePauw University School of Music is honored to host SilkRoad’s Global Musician Workshop. The GMW workshop will reconvene on the DePauw campus in Greencastle, Indiana, June 25 and continue for seven consecutive days through July 1, 2018.
Although registration to participate as a musician has closed, several evening events are open to the public free of charge, including the exceptional GMW FACULTY CONCERT. This first performance will be presented in Gobin Methodist Church (307 Simpson), in conjunction with the Greencastle Summer Music Festival, and followed by four equally inspiring faculty-led PARTICIPANT-ARTIST CONCERTS on the DePauw campus (location TBD). All begin at 7:30 p.m.
During this intensive workshop, an all-star artist-faculty, directed by Silk Road cellist Mike Block (multi-style strings), will teach styles of music from across the world, representing a wide range of backgrounds and cultures. This year's faculty includes Hanneke Cassel (Celtic fiddle); Sandeep Das (Indian tabla); Balla Kouyate (Malian balafon); Edward Perez (Afro-Latin bass); Shane Shanahan (world percussion); Danny Mekonnen (saxophone); Hankus Netsky (Klezmer multi-instrumentalist); Bassam Saba (Arabic multi-instrumentalist); Celia Woodsmith (Singer, guitarist, and songwriter); and Wu Man (Pipa, composer).
