In addition to DePauw School of Music, Leonard Foy serves as artist/faculty at Birch Creek Academy and the Interlochen Arts Camp. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees and also the performer’s certificate at the Eastman School of Music. He completed extensive post-graduate study at the Indiana University School of Music.
Brass professors teach all applied lessons and brass classes and direct brass ensembles. Brass faculty maintain active membership within the International Horn Society, International Trombone Association, International Trumpet Guild, International Tuba-Euphonium Association, International Association of Jazz Educators, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, and the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra. Additionally they are recitalists, studio artists, clinicians, and judges for state, regional, and national competitions.
There are a variety of opportunities for brass players. Students may elect to participate in large ensembles – DePauw University Orchestra, DePauw University Band, or DePauw Jazz Ensemble – through auditions held at the beginning of each semester. Additionally, a variety of brass chamber ensembles are offered each semester.
Master teachers are invited to campus to work with DePauw brass students in various instructional and performance settings. Recent clinicians include Velvet Brown, Tom Riccobono, and St. Louis Brass Quintet.
There are opportunity for both international and domestic off-campus study. Locations recently selected include Vienna, Milan, Paris, London, Dresden, New York, Philadelphia, and Florence.
